2022 IAAS Elections

Dear Section Members,

Please find the slate of candidates for your consideration in the 2022 Section Elections:

Junior Co-Chair:
Ellen Engseth
Curator, Immigration History Research Center Archives and Head,
Migration and Social Services Collections, University of Minnesota

Candidate Statement: Thank you for considering me for this position.
I would be very pleased to continue serving on the committee (I am
currently a member-at-large) as Junior Co-Chair, and advance the work
of connecting with both national and international colleagues. I would
enjoy planning a Section Annual Meeting, which I have done as Chair of
another Section, supporting members in their conference proposals, and
finding creative ways to connect with members and the wider profession
throughout the year. In particular this next year, there is
opportunity to work with SAA’s strategic and equity initiatives, and I
will be eager to connect our Section with this important work. I
approach leadership opportunities in SAA as an opportunity to serve my
colleagues while also developing as a professional, and I am eager to
move forward with your international perspective and projects.

Biography:
Curator of the Immigration History Research Center Archives and Head
of the Migration and Social Services Collections, Archives and Special
Collections, University of Minnesota Libraries. I am active in SAA and
other professional associations, and currently serve on the executive
committee of the International Council on Archives’ Section on
University and Research Institution Archives (SUV). Previous positions
in SAA include chair of the College & University Archives Section and
the Hamer Kegan Award, and member of Program and Publications
committees. My varied interests include equity, diversity and
inclusion; global and cultural competency; people-centered refugee
historical records; access to and engagement with historical records;
and professional development. Published articles include
“Collaboration Across Borders, or Piiride-ülene Koostöö: Estonians and
Americans Working Together Towards Accessible Archival Collections”;
“Cultural Competency: A Framework for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
in the Archival Profession in the United States”; and "Global
Competency and International Mindedness in LIS Education."

Committee Member:
Karen Trivette

Candidate Statement: I wish to express my keen interest to serve the
SAA International Archival Affairs Section (IAAS) as Committee Member.
Since becoming a professional archivist, I have taken on leadership
roles within my institution and for local, regional, and national
professional organizations. I have been a member of the IAAS since
2003 and a member of SAA since 2002. I have also participated on the
international level as a Foundation Board member for the Access to
Memory (AtoM) 3 initiative and served that body in the capacities of
Chair of the Foundation Board’s Roadmap Committee and as Vice Chair
for the Board. My service to the AtoM 3 Foundation Board lasted for 2
years, 2019-2021. In addition, I have been a member of the
International Council on Archives since 2005 and co-hosted an
internationally-focused podcast, An Archivist’s Tale
(2017-2021/hiatus). Thank you for your consideration and your vote; it
would be my complete honor and privilege to serve my IAAS colleagues
in such a tangible and meaningful way.

Biography:
I have thoroughly honed my leadership skills over the course of my
involvement with SAA [College and University Archives Section Chair,
2021-2022; American Archivist journal Editorial Board member
(2016-2020) and special issue Guest Editor (2021); Archives Leadership
Institute graduate, 2018] and the Archivists Round Table of
Metropolitan New York, Inc. (President, 2017-2018).

In addition, I have presented at symposia, conferences, and other
professional gatherings in many locations abroad; I feel my most
professionally stimulated by international influences. This is also
made evident by my pursuing my PhD in Archival Science from Alma Mater
Europaea/University of Maribor, Slovenia, which I aim to complete by
2024. Lastly, I have had the great fortune to publish in international
journals such as the International Journal of Fashion Studies and the
scientific journal, Atlanti+. I have also twice contributed to
international-in-scope monographs, The Fashion Forecasters (2018) and
the forthcoming, Routledge History of Fashion and Dress, 1800 to the
Present. I welcome you to visit my website for a full curriculum vitae
