Ways to advocate for archives, libraries and museums in the face of cuts by the Trump administration
By now you've probably heard about the potentially devastating cuts proposed for Institute of Museum and Library Services. Below are some resources to make your voice heard and hopefully block or at least reduce this disastrous proposal.
This tool from the Every Library Action Center allows you to easily look up the contact information for your representatives, and also provides a call script. You can also email your representatives via Every Library or the American Library Association. Use whatever form suits you, but calling your member of Congress or senator is generally considered the most effective way to get a message across.
You can even make a donation to Every Library's advocacy efforts. ALA's District Dispatch also has regular updates on their fight to maintain funding for libraries.
See the entry below for the SAA campaign to collect funding impact stories and how to include your own. If you know of another way to make a difference for archives, libraries and museums in this political climate, please don't hesitate to email me via hilary.h.barlow@gmail.com
