Description of Tour:   Informal Open House.

The Smithsonian American Art Museum is the home of the largest collection of American art in the world. Its holdings--42,000 artworks in all media spanning more than three centuries--tell the story of

The Museum’s Research and Scholars Center http://www.americanart.si.edu/research/ contains a treasure trove of archival materials.  Come for an informal open house event and view selections from the museum’s:

- Photograph Archives, comprised of over a half million images documenting American art from Colonial to Contemporary times 

- Nam June Paik Archive, documenting the artist's global career in video and multimedia art

- Inventories of American Painting and Sculpture, documenting America artworks in public and private collections worldwide

Address:  Located in the Smithsonian American Art Museum offices, on the third floor of the Victor Building at 750 9th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20001, one block from the National Portrait Gallery/Smithsonian American Art Museum building.

Is Parking Available? (Y/N):  Metered street parking and paid lot parking is available.

Public Transit Accessible? (Y/N):  Yes.

Closest Metro and/or Metrobus:  Gallery Place, 9th and G Street exit.

Any Additional Entrance Requirements:   A photo id is required to sign in at the front desk.  The Research and Scholars Center, Smithsonian American Art Museum is on the third floor. 

Someone will be available in the third floor lobby to guide visitors.

Additional Information:  Concurrent open house events will be taking place in the same building at the Archives of American Art (second floor) and Catalog of American Portraits, National Portrait Gallery (concourse level) offices.  Attendees may visit each of these repositories during the posted open house hours.
