12/5 Host Committee Conference Call Notes

Everyone,

We had a very productive conference call this morning where Beth and I updated the Host Committee members on what we've already accomplished and what we're a hoping to achieve next.

First, Beth and I have reserved the Great Hall in the Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress for next year's All-Attendee Reception.  We've also decided that due to the wealth of opportunities available to visitors in DC, the Host Committee should be more of a guide rather than a director/planner.  To that end, we discussed how we would achieve that through the Host Committee blog between now and the conference.  Although the blog won't begin until January, we started brainstorming ideas for specific areas in which Host Committee members could take responsibility.  Here is a rough list of what we decided

Kat: Entertainment and Happy Hours

Peter: Neighborhoods and Repository Tours

Morgan: Public Transportation, Getting to DC, and Entertainment/Cultural Events

Nadia: Baltimore

Jenny: DC Mobile Apps and Self-Guided Tours

Carole: Charitable Service Project and Places of Worship

It is more than likely that everyone will end up contributing to other categories, but this is a first pass at this list.

Additionally, we are going to look at the past SAA Host Committee blogs as well to see what previous Host Committees have done.  The two most recent conference were New Orleans and San Diego.  The links for those Host Committee blogs are www.gnoarchivists.org/category/cosa-saa13/ and http://saa2012sd.wordpress.com/

Finally, we are going to hold another conference call on Thursday, December 19, at 10am.  We will be sending out more information about the call in the future.  Feel free to use the Google Docs folder in the meantime to either generate new ideas or delve into more detail in a specific area.

Thanks again to everyone for participating and we look forward to speaking with everyone in two weeks.

Best,
Andrew
