12/19 and 12/20 Conference Call Notes

Everyone,

Beth and I had another conference call this morning with Rene Mueller and Nancy Beaumont from SAA to discuss our progress with the committee and to answer our questions about our intended progress.  I'm going to update everyone on both calls to avoid unnecessary emailing.

Let's start with our host committee conference call on Thursday morning.  Beth updated the group that we have approached CoSA and NAGARA to try and recruit a few final members for the Host Committee to ensure that we have representation from all three organizations next August.  Members of the committee also updated the group about what they had accomplished or brainstormed during the previous two weeks.  This included the possible creation of a neighborhood template to standardize descriptions of DC neighborhoods on the blog, interest from Dumbarton Oaks and the Washingtoniana Room at the DC Public Library of host repository tours, the creation of a places of worship list, a list of possible day trips from the DC Metro area, testing of DC mobile apps, and a very generous offer to research brewery tours for SAA members.

We have scheduled another conference call for Jan. 9 at 10am to check up with everyone after the holidays.

During our conference call this morning with Rene and Nancy, Beth and I learned that SAA will only advertise repository tours that do not counterprogram against the conference.  This means that any repository tours the Host Committee arranges most likely need to be on Tuesday and Wednesday morning before the start of roundtable meetings.  The Host Committee is also responsible for the creation and development of the blog and so I will be researching blog options to see what will work best for the committee's needs.  We also learned during this morning's call that Host Committee outreach about next year's conference will not start in earnest until mid-April most likely.  This means that we will have lots of time to develop our outreach efforts and postings.  Our first hard deadline is the creation of an article for the Archival Outlook due February 5.

Thanks everyone and enjoy your holidays!

Best,

Andrew
