Speakers:

Presentation 1:

  • Ruth E. Bryan, a Certified Archivist, is University Archivist at the University of Kentucky Libraries Special Collections Research Center (UK SCRC) in Lexington, KY, USA. She leads donor relations, archival appraisal, collection management, and public services and outreach for University of Kentucky records and related collections.  Ruth’s archival career has included positions at academic libraries, non-profit organizations, and a private historic site. She has master’s degrees in public history and cultural anthropology from North Carolina State University (Raleigh, NC) and the New School for Social Research (New York, NY), respectively.
  • Leah W. Craig is Deputy Director at the Kentucky Historical Society. Leah has master’s in history with a certificate in public history from Auburn University and has experience in small to mid-size institutions ranging from education, collections management, and administration. She has several experiences with disaster preparedness and response, including as an AmeriCorps Members with the American Red Cross and disasters such as the 2021 tornadoes that affected the National Corvette Museum.
  • Rusty Heckaman is the State Archivist and Director of the Archives and Records Management Division of the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives. He manages the archival collections of the State of Kentucky, comprised of material from local, state, and judicial records that capture the history of the Commonwealth’s governance and the interactions of its peoples with that government. Originally from Indiana, Rusty is a graduate of Indiana University with his Master’s in Library Science. His career as an archivist has encompassed a variety of archival settings including; local municipality, state government, private corporate archives, and non-profit advocacy organizations.

Presentation 2:


  • Rachel Searcy is the Accessioning Archivist at New York University Libraries, and served as a member of the National Best Practices for Archival Accessioning Working Group. Previously, Rachel held positions focused on processing, metadata, and digitization at NYU's Tamiment Library and Robert F. Wagner Labor Archives, and the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. She holds an MS in Library and Information Science with a concentration in Archives Management and an MA in History from Simmons College (now Simmons University), as well as a BA in English and History and a Certificate in Celtic Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
  • Rosemary K. J. Davis (she/her) is Head of Archival Accessioning for the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University. Previously, she worked at Amherst College and Duke’s Rubenstein Rare Book and Manuscript Library. From 2021-2024, she served as co-founder and member of the National Best Practices for Archival Accessioning Working Group.
