The problem is that the manufacturers of print film use shorter life expectancy criteria for the design of their print film than for film production or film printing elements. A print would typically be worn out by or before the time the color would fade and that moment arrives much sooner if a print is in theatrical circulation. Even when an unused print is stored in the dark though and when stored under the same conditions as a negative or intermediate element, it will fade more quickly.
