Description: Join an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the San Diego Zoo Global Library and Archives, located approximately 35 miles north of downtown San Diego. During the tour, attendees will have the chance to explore the library, ordinarily accessible only to San Diego Zoo Global staff, and learn about the various historical collections managed by organization—including a small archival collection which documents and preserves the San Diego Zoo’s nearly-100-year history. The tour includes brief introductions to the library, archives, animal registry, histology slide collection, native seed bank, and the Frozen Zoo gene bank. In addition, tour participants will have the opportunity to enter the San Diego Zoo Safari Park free of charge immediately following the tour. All time in the Safari Park will be unguided and attendees are free to explore at will.
Directions: Located at 15600 San Pasqual Valley Road, Escondido, CA, the library and archives are approximately 35 miles north of San Diego and adjacent to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The SDZG Library and Archives is located within the Beckman Center, home to the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research. For directions from the conference hotel (Hilton San Diego Bayfront), click the following link: http://goo.gl/maps/VGOw. Access information regarding the Beckman Center gate will be communicated directly to attendees following tour confirmation. Due to extremely limited availability of free parking, carpooling is highly encouraged.
