Congratulations on being a presenter at ARCHIVES*RECORDS 2022. SAA invites you to consider sharing your presentation with an even broader audience by also submitting it for publication consideration in one of the following outlets:
- American Archivist is the leading publication in the archives field. One of the journal's goals is to stimulate conversation in the literature about archival theory and practice. Although a conference presentation is very different from a written article, presenters should consider using feedback from the session chair, fellow speakers, and questions from the audience to transform a well-presented session into a submission for American Archivist. Submissions may also blend multiple shorter presentations from a panel into a longer paper which includes citations and additional commentary. All submissions can include photographs and other illustrations. As an example, see the "The Archival Mystique: Women Archivists Are Professional Archivists" by Alexandra A. A. Orchard, Kristen Chinery, Alison Stankrauff, and Leslie Van Veen McRoberts, which was developed by the authors from an SAA Annual Meeting presentation. - Archival Outlook. SAA’s bimonthly magazine features 700- to 1,400-word articles on best practice, how-to pieces, DEIA initiatives, archival outreach, and archivists on the job. Photos are encouraged. Check out these presentations from recent conferences that were converted to articles: “Where Do I Go From Here?: Transitioning into Mid-Career and Administrative Roles” by Crystal Rogers, Maija Anderson, Erin Passehl Stoddart, and Cris Paschild; and “Documenting Disability History in Pennsylvania” by Sierra Green, Bridget Malley, Margery Sly, and Tyler Stump. - Book Publishing. SAA publishes a mix of print and digital resources on a variety of topics that serve the archives profession as well as nurture new and seasoned voices. You can help build on that history by submitting a prospectus for a book-length manuscript. Ideas welcome! Other options include the series Archival Futures, which critically engages issues as—and for—the public good (20,000 to 50,000 words); or Trends in Archives Practice, an open-ended series of modules featuring authoritative treatments (10,000 to 20,000 words in length) that fill significant gaps in the archival literature.
