Call for Volunteers: Help Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary!

December 11, 2024—The 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence is approaching in 2026, and the Society of American Archivists (SAA) is seeking passionate volunteers to join the America250 Task Force dedicated to marking this historic milestone. 

Why Get Involved? 

Archives are at the heart of the American story, preserving its essential evidence. This is a unique opportunity to ensure archivists and archives take center stage in the national conversation about our shared past, present, and future. 

What Will the Task Force Do? 

• Propose 1–3 events, activities, or resources for SAA to develop for the 250th Anniversary.
• Create a budget and plan for these proposals.
• Identify external resources to share widely.
• Develop the selected items for release in 2026. 

Who We're Looking For: 

• 8 members, including 2 co-chairs.
• Individuals committed to a term from January 2025 through September 1, 2026.
• Ability to dedicate 6–8 months to lead and support sub-groups. 

Expectations: 

• Monthly meetings (more frequent in early stages).
• A collaborative spirit and passion for archives. 

Deadline to Apply: January 15, 2025, by 5:00 p.m. CST.
