Be the match! SAA Mentoring Program Seeks Mentors

The Society of American Archivists' Mentoring Program is currently seeking additional mentoring volunteers! The Mentoring Program connects participants with shared interests in various aspects of the archival profession into 6-month mentoring partnerships. The goal is to cultivate career development and communication between members with areas of expertise and members who want to build their knowledge within those areas.

We currently have people waiting for mentors who may have some of the following qualities:

  • LGBTQIA+ identity with possible expertise in some of the following topics including Archival Processing, Archives Adjacent Roles (professional researcher, vendor, etc), Digital Preservation, Metadata and Description, Records Management
  • Academic Libraries/archives
  • Archival Processing
  • Collection Management
  • Consulting/Freelance Work
  • Education and Professional Development
  • Genealogy
  • Government Archives
  • Grants
  • Job Search and Changing Careers
  • Legal Issues in Archives (i.e. Privacy and Confidentiality, Copyright, etc)
  • Professional Service (volunteering, governance, etc)
  • Project Management
  • Reference

Do you think you don't have any expertise to share? Some of our colleagues waiting for mentors are just getting started in the profession and are looking for advice on schools, classes, career trajectory, resume development and interviewing skills. For inspiration and insight into what a mentoring partnership looks like, I encourage you to read the recent posts on the SAA Membership Blog written by recent mentoring partners to learn how a relatively small commitment can make a big difference for a colleague's growth.

Please consider signing up to be a mentor by submitting this application (click on "Apply to be a mentor").

Thank you for your consideration,
SAA Mentoring Program
