NARA Corrects Records Schedule, Extends Comment Period on Dept. of Interior Records

October 26, 2018--The National Archives and Records Administration has extended to November 26 the comment period on records schedules proposed by the Department of the Interior.

The original call for public comment on the Interior records was published in the September 11, 2018, Federal Register.  The public was given 30 days, until October 11, to comment. The version of the records schedule and its supporting “crosswalk” that were provided at that time comprised a draft in which seven permanent items were incorrectly identified as “long-term temporary.” Correct final versions of the proposed records schedule, appraisal memo, and “big-bucket crosswalk” are now available via NARA’s Records Express blog.

SAA, the National Coalition for History, and others will be calling on NARA to revise its procedures to streamline access to appraisal memos and schedules, possibly via direct links from the Federal Register notice.
