  • Alabama Department of Archives and History
    • In honor of the Civil War and Reconstruction sesquicentennials the Alabama Department of Archives and History undertook a project to make all of its newspapers from that era available online. These issues have been digitized from microfilm. The quality varies greatly, depending on the condition of the original paper and the film; therefore, some portions of the text may be illegible or difficult to read.

  • Arizona Historical Digital Newspapers
    • The Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records has the largest collection of historic Arizona newspapers in the state spanning from the first Arizona newspaper published in 1859, to current titles. Not all titles are digitized. This online collection is part of the Arizona Memory Project.

  • Arkansas Digital Newspaper Project
    • The Arkansas Digital Newspaper Project (ADNP) at the Arkansas State Archives is a state partner on the National Digital Newspaper Program. With grant funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities and in partnership with the Library of Congress, the ADNP team works to digitize historic Arkansas newspapers and make them available for free on the Library of Congress' Chronicling America.

  • California Digital Newspaper Collection
    • A compreshensive source for digitized California newspapers, CDNC is a project of the Center for Bibliographical Studies and Research (CBSR) at the University of California, Riverside. The CDNC is supported in whole or in part by funding provided by the State of California, administered by the California State Library.

  • Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection
    • A service of the Colorado State Library, the Colorado Historic Newspapers Collection (CHNC) currently includes more than 3.2 million digitized pages, representing more than 665 individual newspaper titles published in Colorado from 1859 up thru 2022. Due to copyright restrictions, the CHNC does not always include newspapers published after 1927, but the CHNC can digitize beyond 1927 if publisher permission can be secured.  And best of all the CHNC can be browsed and searched for free!

  • Connecticut Digital Newspaper Project
    • The Connecticut Digital Newspaper Project (CDNP), run out of the Connecticut State Library, is a newspaper digitization project that works as part of the larger Library of Congress National Digital Newspaper Program to digitize historical newspapers for preservation and research use. Each grant allows the Connecticut State Library to add 100,000 pages, digitized from microfilm of newspapers published in Connecticut between 1690-1963, to the Library of Congress Chronicling America database.

  • Florida Digital Newspaper Library
    • The Florida Digital Newspaper Library (FDNL) exists to provide access to the news and history of Florida Newspapers are a state treasure, the historian's and genealogist's best friend, and the community's collective memory. In the world of newspapers, today's news is already history, from the moment the stories are printed.

  • Georgia Historic Newspapers Archives
    • The Georgia Historic Newspapers Archive is a project of the Digital Library of Georgia (DLG), a part of Georgia’s Virtual Library GALILEO and is based at the University of Georgia Libraries. Since 2007, the DLG has partnered with universities, archives, public libraries, historical societies, museums, and other cultural heritage institutions to digitize historical newspapers from around the state. The archive is free and open for public use and includes over two million Georgia newspaper pages between 1763 and 2021.

  • Illinois Digital Newspaper Collection
    • Illinois Newspapers contains historic Illinois newspapers from across the state, including The Urbana Daily Courier, Sangamo Journal, and the University of Illinois collegiate newspaper The Daily Illini. These papers range in date from 1831 to 1975, providing a sense of local life and culture in the Midwest across two centuries.
  • Hoosier State Chronicles (Indiana)
    • Hoosier State Chronicles is operated by the Indiana State Library and funded by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act. We seek to provide free, online access to high quality digital images of Indiana's historic newspapers by digitizing our collection, and assisting other organizations in making their collections digitally available.
