This Spring, in collaboration with the SAA Privacy and Confidentiality and Collection Management Sections, as well as the Center for Digital Scholarship and Curation at Washington State University, NAAS organized a two-part Mukurtu Workshop and Panel Event exploring how to thoughtfully approach managing, restricting, and providing access to Indigenous archival materials in your collections.
Part 1 – Overview of Mukurtu featured Lotus Norton-Wisla (Digital and Community Outreach Archivist at the Washington State University) who gave a presentation about Mukurtu CMS – the free, mobile, and open source platform built with Indigenous communities to manage and share digital cultural heritage.
Part 2 – Panel Discussion and Questions featured three expert speakers who spoke about their experiences using Mukurtu CMS and shared how their institutions approached Indigenous collections in their care:
If you have any questions about the events that took place, contact our NAAS email (nativearchsaa@gmail.com), or get in touch with Privacy and Confidentiality Chair Rachel Gattermeyer (rgatterm@uwyo.edu). Thanks to all those who attended!
