Collaborative Mukurtu Workshop and Panel Event Recordings Now Available!

This Spring, in collaboration with the SAA Privacy and Confidentiality and Collection Management Sections, as well as the Center for Digital Scholarship and Curation at Washington State University, NAAS organized a two-part Mukurtu Workshop and Panel Event exploring how to thoughtfully approach managing, restricting, and providing access to Indigenous archival materials in your collections.

Part 1 – Overview of Mukurtu featured Lotus Norton-Wisla (Digital and Community Outreach Archivist at the Washington State University) who gave a presentation about Mukurtu CMS – the free, mobile, and open source platform built with Indigenous communities to manage and share digital cultural heritage.

Part 2 – Panel Discussion and Questions featured three expert speakers who spoke about their experiences using Mukurtu CMS and shared how their institutions approached Indigenous collections in their care:

• Selena Ortega-Chiolero (Museum Specialist at the Chickaloon Village Traditional Council)
• Jennifer O'Neal (Assistant Professor in the Department of Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies at the University of Oregon)
• Cordelia Hooee (Tribal Archivist at the Pueblo of Zuni Governor's Office)
