shelving for a new space

Good afternoon.  I just recieved the good news that I will be getting a climate controlled room for the collection to replace the hot attic space I have now.  My problem is that I need to figure out what storage space I will need. The room is 14 X 20 feet. I will need to have storage space and work space.  I am looking at the Steel Record Storage Racks in the Gaylord catalog.  I can fit 3 or 4 of them in there with workspace left over.  There is also about ten feet along one wall for a bookshelf.

I am trying to maximize the storage space because it is probably full before I even buy it.  Is there a different product or company to look at?  Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Retention schedule for grant proposals

Good morning!

I was going through some folders from the 1990s and our church foundation had a grants and fundraising committee. The group was researching fundraising prospects, e.g., The Mars Foundation, and writing letters of inquiry and grant proposals to fund building renovations. I'm trying to decide what should be retained as historical Information and what can be disposed of. I imagine the retention period has long passed but can't find a definitive length of time. And is the length different for successful vs. unsuccessful proposals?

Another reason for my query is I submitted a grant proposal earlier this month and want to know how long to retain that documentation.

Many thanks!

Donations to Alumni office

Hello all

The Director of Alumni Relations at my school recently told me that he has several donations made to the school by alums and asked how would I like him to handle donations in the future.

My question is how do you deal with the alumni and development offices when it comes to donations to the school?  I am just looking for some guidance about how to work with his office before I meet with him next week.  My feeling is that I would like to be involved as soon as possible in making any decisions about donations.

Thanks for any advice.

wool sweater that needs to be cleaned

Hello all.  I have a wool sweater from the 1940s that was donated by an alumnus. It needs to be cleaned before I put it in storage.  My question is can I bring it to any dry cleaner or is there some special place that I should be looking for? I am in northern NJ if you have any suggestions of a specific place to go also.  Thanks Tom
