Thank you to our excellent candidate for standing in the 2024 Collection Management Section special election. Please take some time to review the candidate statement so you can make an informed choice.

The elected candidate will serve as Vice-Chair for 2023-24 and as the Chair for the following year of 2024-25

Megan Mummey

Candidate Statement: In the past three years, I have taken a more active role in professional service and have found the experience to be extremely rewarding. I served as the chair of the Kentucky Council on Archives (KCA) in 2021-2022. KCA is a relatively small organization that supports the professional development of the archivists of Kentucky, and prides itself on being an affordable option for continuing education for archivists of all kinds of repositories (religious, business, educational, governmental, etc.). Many archivists in Kentucky are drastically under-supported by their institutions, a situation that is not confined to Kentucky, and KCA is often the only affordable option for their continuing development as professionals. I organized two meetings (one entirely online meeting and one in-person, outdoor conference) and sought frequent feedback from KCA’s membership.  As past chair, I led a committee to create a continuing education travel scholarship for Kentucky archivists. I joined the Collection Management Steering Group as the Web Liaison in August of 2022. Since then, I have helped plan the annual meeting and spring webinar as well as made improvements to the Section’s microsite. I’ve found the experience very rewarding and meaningful and would like to continue to expand my role in professional service.

I am interested in serving in the vice-chair role, because of my commitment to providing archivists with accessible and quality programming. I believe strongly in common sense, practical solutions to collection management issues, and that the more we communicate with one another about our challenges, successes, and projects, the more that we as archivists and collection managers will benefit. I bring this philosophy to my service as well as to my work where I bear direct responsibility at my institution for collection management, including the administration of ArchivesSpace, space management, and data integrity.  Serving as the vice chair of the Collections Management Section Steering Committee matches well with my current skill set and philosophy as well as with my desire to serve the national archival profession.
