Susan Tucker
archivist emerita, Tulane University/archival consultant

Biographical statement:

I am currently an archival consultant specializing in the manuscripts and private records of families. In the past three years, I have worked with the digital presentation of the letters of a nineteenth-century woman (The Letters of Josephine Louise Newcomb), as well as other electronic exhibitions and projects. Between 1985 and 2015, I oversaw the Newcomb Archives and the Vorhoff Library at Tulane University. There much of my work concerned Newcomb Pottery, scrapbooks, and oral history. Among my publications are The Scrapbook in American Culture (with Katherine Ott and Patrician Buckler) and City of Remembering. I was awarded the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017.

Candidate statement:

I served as a member of the Steering Committee for the Archival History Section between 2017-2019. It would be an honor to serve again, this time as vice-chair, and indeed to lead in projects such as planning for the annual meeting and selection of materials for the Archival History Article Award. I also believe the newsletter is an excellent resource for the entire profession and would look forward to finding ways to promote it.
