SAA’s Strategic Plan reflects the strategic priorities that guide us in working to achieve our Vision and Mission and maintaining our commitment to our Core Organizational Values:

Vision:  The Society of American Archivists empowers archivists to achieve professional excellence and foster innovation to ensure the identification, preservation, understanding, and use of records of enduring value.

Mission:  SAA is a vital community that promotes the value and diversity of archives and archivists and serves as the preeminent resource for the profession.

Core Organizational Values:  The Society of American Archivists is committed to

  • Advancing the public standing of archivists.
  • Ensuring the diversity of its membership and leaders, the profession, and the archival record.
  • Fostering an open and inclusive culture of creativity, collaboration, and experimentation across the association.
  • Providing excellent member service.
  • Ensuring transparency, accountability, integrity, professionalism, and social responsibility in conducting its activities.

The SAA Council reviews and updates the Plan periodically, and is guided by it when making decisions on behalf of the organization and in the interest of the profession. The current plan, SAA Strategic Plan 2026-2028, was approved by the Council in #.

The Council uses a Strategic Plan Dashboard to develop and track specific projects, initiatives, and activities to accomplish the goals of the SAA Strategic Plan. This living document is frequently referenced and reviewed by the Council, growing and adapting to the evolving needs of SAA and the profession. The current dashboard can be found in the most recent Council meeting agenda materials, typically as item III.B.
