QUESTION POSED BY NOMINATING COMMITTEE

The work of the Nominating Committee is critical to the success of SAA as an organization. Describe how you would identify and recruit potential candidates who represent a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives and who demonstrate commitment to SAA’s Strategic Goals.

CANDIDATE’S RESPONSE

Since 2001, I have served archives communities and academic communities in capacities directly related to election nominations efforts. Such service includes membership on the FIT Faculty Senate Nominations and Elections Committee from 2009-2011 and as Vice-President/President-elect of the Archivists Round Table of Metropolitan New York, Inc., 2016–2017. In these two roles, I was charged with identifying candidates for various elected positions and, in some cases, managing the election processes as well. To discover a variety of qualified candidates, I exhausted my network of contacts and means of communicating with my associated communities. My work leveraging contacts—state, regional, national, and international—and utilizing communications technology (social networks, listservs, websites, etc.) has yielded diverse and robust slates of candidates and solid and inclusive representation for various elected offices. I seek the position as a member of the Nominating Committee as I wish to serve SAA with the skills, experience, and network I have accumulated and developed over nearly twenty years in the profession. The culmination of my years of service presents a candidate you can trust completely to carry out her responsibilities fully on SAA’s Nominating Committee. Thank you for your vote!
