 PROJECT STAND

WHEREAS In the Fall of 2016, Project STAND (Student Activism Now Documented) was established to bring together academic institutions across the state of Ohio to share information about collections and materials related to student activism on their campuses, with a primary focus on marginalized student identities; and

WHEREAS Lae’l Hughes-Watkins, former University Archivist at Kent State University and currently University Archivist at the University of Maryland, and Tamar Chute, University Archivist at The Ohio State University, conceived of a centralized hub for academic archives focusing on underrepresented communities’ engagement in social justice activities on and off campus; and

WHEREAS Project STAND has grown from its origins in Ohio to become a nationwide effort to document historically marginalized student communities in academic archives, hosting its first national forum in Atlanta in 2018;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Project STAND and founders Lae’l Hughes-Watkins and Tamar Chute be honored with a 2019 SAA Council Resolution for focusing on the needs and efforts of academic archives in documenting marginalized student activism and advocating for and supporting the work of underrepresented student communities’ engagement in social justice activities on and off campus.
