The Wright State University chapter of The Society of American Archivists formed in April, 2004. Although the chapter is open to all students in conjunction with Wright State University’s policies, the chapter is heavily connected with the university’s Public History program.

Activities included:

  • Application and acceptance from the university’s Office of Student Life.
  • Officer elections, writing the chapter constitution and officer job descriptions
  • Website was developed and launched.
  • Chapter Kickoff Celebration with the generous financial support of the history department
  • Four SAA officers and two WSU graduate students formed a panel presentation at the Society of Ohio Archivists Spring Conference. The group presented on their experiences in the archival program and the challenge of deciding between similar programs at the graduate level.
  • Two officers participated in the Miami Valley Archives Roundtable meeting and archive tour.
  • Participated in the university’s mascot design contest similar to the Chicago cows or the Cincinnati pigs. The statue will go up for auction in the 2004-2005 academic year. The chapter will receive 100% of the auction price for future chapter programming. For more information see the chapter website or www.rowdyroundtown.wright.edu/.
  • In June 2004, the chapter received official recognition from the Society of American Archivists becoming the first chapter in Ohio.

Looking ahead to 2004-2005

  • In 2003-2004, the chapter started planning for a November 2004 Miami Valley Archives Roundtable in which the chapter will host area archivists for a half-day event.
