Ruth E. Bryan, CA, is University Archivist in the Special Collections Research Center of the University of Kentucky Libraries, Lexington, Kentucky, USA (2011-present). Prior to UK, Ruth was the Archives Program Manager for the Ruth Mott Foundation/Applewood, Flint, Michigan (2006-2001), and Head of Collections Processing and Encoding for Duke University’s Rare Book, Manuscripts, and Special Collections Library, Durham, North Carolina (2000-2006). A Certified Archivist, Ruth holds master’s degrees in public history from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina (2000), and cultural anthropology from the New School for Social Research, New York, New York (1996). Much of her day-to-day work is in the area of archival appraisal, the complex process of relationship-building and decision-making with document creators and donors in order to build a center for primary source research such as the UK Special Collections.
