Ken Allen has been working in the field of photography for over 20 years. He participated in the Kodak PhotoCD project and was a beta tester for one of the early versions of Adobe Photoshop. With a degree in Imaging and Photographic Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology, and educated in traditional printing of silver gelatin prints, c-prints, Cibachrome, dye transfer and masking techniques, Ken began experimenting with digital printing technologies early on. Since then, he has developed techniques for scanning and color corrections to optimize data and print results from digital files and created special protocols for scanning color negatives.
As a Professional Imaging Representative at Eastman Kodak Company, Ken worked with professional photographers and photographic laboratories, helping them convert to a digital work-flow. In 1996, he joined Leaf as Product Manager for digital camer a systems, later moving to Sinar Bron, where he continued his work with Leaf digital cameras as well as Sinar equipment, and aiding the transition to digital photography.
With his experience working with film, vintage and contemporary photographs, and digital photographic technology, Ken is committed to applying the latest digital imaging technologies to advance the field of photography and working with institutions to improve the management of photographic collections and the implementation of digital archives. Before launching Ken Allen Studios in Brooklyn, New York, and Ken Allen Digital in Alexandria, Virginia, Ken provided digital imaging and digital asset management solutions to publishers, museums, and not-for-profit organizations, handling large collections of digital assets.
Ken is a member of: Society of American Archivists (SAA), American Association of Museums (AAM), Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T), American Institute for Conservation Photographic Materials Group (AIC/PMG)
