Applications Open for SAA Career Counselors

The Career Services Commons, an initiative by the Career Development Subcommittee of the SAA Membership Committee, is excited to launch applications for its inaugural cohort of Career Counselors. Premiering in early 2021, The Commons will be a space for students, early-career archivists, and others to connect with experienced archives professionals. Designed in response to the continued success of the Career Center at the SAA Annual Meeting, the Career Services Commons will be a permanent online space for SAA members to access and offer career advising sessions, mock interviews, and resume review services.

SAA Career Counselors will serve year-long terms with the possibility of renewal. As a Career Counselor, you’ll have the opportunity to offer guidance and support to emerging and developing professionals. Counselors will be expected to commit a minimum of three (3) hours per month on a flexible schedule and will provide a mix of mock interviews, resume review sessions, and career advising sessions. Sessions are one-on-one and will last between thirty minutes and one hour. To volunteer for a year-long term as a Career Counselor in our inaugural cohort, please apply today

In our selection of applicants, we aim to create a cohort of individuals with varied professional expertise in the archives field. We also seek counselors with a wide array of life experiences. Individuals with disabilities, people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and those with other marginalized identities are all encouraged to apply.

Applications open at 8 a.m. EST on December 10th, 2020 and close at 11:59 p.m. EST on January 10th, 2021. Applicants will be notified of results in early February and should be prepared to begin their year-long terms in March 2021. Applicants must have worked in the archives field for a minimum of three (3) years and should be SAA members in good standing. Questions or comments?
