Call for Member Comment: Guidelines for Accessible Archives for People with Disabilities

The SAA Task Force to Revise Best Practices on Accessibility seeks member comment on the revised Guidelines for Accessible Archives for People with Disabilities. This is a set of suggested guidelines for archives institutions and organizations for making archives collections, and work spaces, accessible to people with disabilities.  This includes researchers, archival employees, donors, and any other people who seek access to or work with archival materials.

The Task Force seeks to make this document succinct and usable, with an extended resource list providing greater detail for implementing recommendations.

The document was drafted by the Task Force which was convened in November 2017 to revise the Best Practices for Working with Archives Researchers with Physical Disabilities and Best Practices for Working with Employees with Physical Disabilities. These two standards were developed by the Joint Archives Management/Records Management Roundtables Working Group on Accessibility in Archives and Records Management and adopted by SAA in 2010.
