Call for volunteers to join SAA's Technical Subcommittee on Encoded Archival Standards (TS-EAS)

Where do you see yourself professionally in 2021?  Appointed to a relatively new technical subcommittee, perhaps?  Working to improve and influence the role of encoded archival standards — including EAD and EAC-CPF — throughout the world?  If so, now is the time to volunteer!  

The Technical Subcommittee on Encoded Archival Standards (TS-EAS) is seeking volunteers to join our group.

Next year, the committee will be focused on the following major areas of work:

• Finalizing a major revision of EAC-CPF;
• Starting a major revision of EAD (EAD3 was released in 2015!);
• Developing a new encoding standard for archival functions;
• Continuing our outreach and education campaign.

To volunteer, please fill out one of the two self-nomination forms by Friday, 15 January 2021.

If you are a Society of American Archivists (SAA) member, based in the United States, you can volunteer to serve on TS-EAS (as well as a variety of other great committees), by using the following webform: https://www2.archivists.org/membership/volunteer.

If you would like to join TS-EAS as an International member, and live outside of the United States, you can volunteer here: https://www2.archivists.org/volunteer/international. Anyone with an interest in archival standards is welcome to apply as an International member, but please note that the primary language used in the committee is English.

The time required to participate in TS-EAS can vary considerably, but in general you should expect to set aside an average of two hours per week and to participate in at least two of four committee-wide meetings each year.
