2016 Ballot Question to Amend By-laws

The Manuscript Repositories Section Steering Committee has proposed that the web liaison position be eliminated from the Section's leadership roster, with the duties of managing the Section's website being distributed among members of the Steering Committee.

This referendum of the members of the Section is to determine whether the proposed changes to the by-laws of the Section are to be adopted.

BACKGROUND:

No one was appointed to the web liaison position this past year, following the recommendation of the previous liaison, and duties were instead shared among Committee members. As with many other activities, how much work is involved in managing the Section’s micro site depends on what members want to accomplish with it. If members want the Section to maintain its site in the current style and content, the duties for updating the site can be assigned to one or two Steering Committee members. But if instead members would like the Section to develop and maintain an expanded site, appointing a web liaison to the leadership team is preferred. A vote to eliminate the position would amend our bylaws. A majority of the votes cast is required to amend the bylaws.

For your information, our current by-laws include the following article:

IV. Web Liaison

1. The web liaison is appointed by the chair and approved by the steering committee.

2. The web liaison serves three years, consisting of one year as co-liaison, one year as solo liaison, and a final year working with the new co-liaison. If no one comes forward to take the co-liaison position during the solo year, the web liaison’s term can be renewed until another candidate is identified.
