Patricia Galloway is an Associate Professor of archival studies in the School of Information of the University of Texas at Austin. From 1979 to 2000 she worked at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History, where she directed the project to create an electronic records archives for the state of Mississippi. She holds a BA in French, MA and PhD in Comparative Literature, and PhD in Anthropology. Her recent publications include an article on “Digital Archiving” in the Encyclopedia of Library and Information Science (2009), and articles in American Archivist, Library Trends, IEEE Annals of the History of Computing, and Archivaria. Her areas of specialization are archival appraisal and digital archiving and preservation. Her research interests include institutionalization of digital repositories and appropriate appraisal practices for digital records. In keeping with her interests as a historian, she researches how archiving and cultural preservation in general fit into their historical and cultural contexts.
