February 2018—What actions can we take to support federal funding of the humanities, even as we keep an eye on Congress’s appropriations discussions? As we fight to ensure that drastic cuts don’t become law, our most important assets are our allies in Congress. That’s why this is the perfect time to make a push for the Congressional History Caucus!
The Presidential Budget Request for FY 2019 again calls for elimination of the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Although the appropriations process for FY 2018 has not yet been completed, Congress has rejected the President’s previous proposals.
February 8, 2018—The SAA Council today adopted a Statement on Sexual Assault and Harassment in response to recent articles about harassment of public librarians and sexual assault by former Archivist of the United States Allen Weinstein. Read the statement here.
February 5, 2018—The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) wants to remind arts and cultural organizations that recovery help may be available from a variety of sources. To take advantage of the full range of assistance that may be available, it’s important that these organizations submit a Request for Public Assistance (RPA) to the Governor’s Authorized Representative (GAR) before the new deadline of February 17.
January 25, 2018—The Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Rare Books and Manuscripts Section (RBMS) and the Society of American Archivists (SAA) have developed a new standard, Standardized Statistical Measures and Metrics for Public Services in Archival Repositories and Special Collections Libraries.
