New Issue of Journal Due Out in January

THE AMERICAN ARCHIVIST

Vol. 79, No. 2 | Fall/Winter 2016

Scientific field notes are a valuable historical resource. However, their nonstandard format and presentation can make them difficult to search with automated tools. Such is the case with M. Moynihan, an evolutionary biologist who frequently drew in his notebooks, a page of which is featured on the cover of the forthcoming issue of The American Archivist. Lesley Parilla and Meghan Ferriter discuss a creative solution to this problem in their article, “Social Media and Crowdsourced Transcription of Historical Materials at the Smithsonian Institution: Methods for Strengthening Community Engagement and its Tie to Transcription Output.” Look for their article and eight other intriguing research articles along with a half-dozen book reviews in the next American Archivist, due out in mid January 2017. In the meantime, check out the table of contents . . .
