SAA Council Approves New Student Chapter, Assessed Indigenizing Archival Training and Section Health Assessment Groups

May 28, 2024At its May 1–2 virtual meeting, the SAA Council:

  • Approved the minutes from the February 5–6 Council meeting. Those minutes are now available on the SAA website: https://www2.archivists.org/groups/saa-council/february-5-6-2024-council-meeting
  • Agreed that the Committee on Education will furnish additional information and data to bolster the rationale and demand for the proposed Records and Information Management program. This decision is pending further strategic planning discussions. (0524-IV-A-CoE)
  • Approved the establishment of a new student chapter at Indiana University. (0524-IV-B-StudChap)
  • Discussed the possibility of crafting comprehensive statement guidelines to elucidate SAA's overarching stance. (0524-V-C)
  • Discussed developing sustainable models and funding avenues to support honoraria, compensation, and various programs through grants and initiatives.(0524-IV-C-HUI)
  • Appointed Krystal Appiah, serving her second year on the Council, as a member of the Executive Committee for the 2024-2025 term. Additionally, Joyce Gabiola and Lydia Tang, also in their second year on the Council, were designated to serve on the Nominating Committee for the same term. (0524-V-D)
  • Heard a presentation from the Indigenizing Archival Training program team on its successful pilot training program, which was funded by a Mellon Foundation grant. (0524-V-A-IAT).
  • Assessed the progress of the Section Health Assessment Working Group in fulfilling its objectives of evaluating sections and gathering feedback on new governance guidelines. (0524-V-D-SHAWG)
