February 7, 2023—At its February 1, 3, 2023, virtual meeting, the SAA Council:
- Approved a petition to form a new User Experience Section, focused on promoting routine user experience testing as well as guidelines for implementing this work into description, discovery, and access. More information will be shared on the SAA website as the section is established. (IV.B.)
- Approved updates to the Strategic Plan Actions and Timelines dashboard, to adjust fiscal year expectations and designate “lead coordinator” groups for each initiative. Council liaisons will follow up with those respective groups to discuss next steps. (III.C.)
- Selected three SAA Fellows to serve on the 2023 Committee on the Selection of SAA Fellows; Executive Director Jacqualine Price Osafo will contact these individuals to confirm their consent to serve, and their names will be included in the minutes for this meeting. (IV.A.)
- Approved updates to “Documenting in Times of Crisis: A Resource Kit,” adding new resources to the “Digital Content” and “Emotional Support” sections. (II.C.)
- Approved minutes for the November 1, 3, 2022, Council meeting, now available on the SAA website here. (II.B.)
- Discussed organizational support and advocacy for archival workers’ labor needs, with the intention of creating a task force dedicated to exploring current and future needs to build resilient structures. (V.A.)
- Reviewed the timeline and expectations for a full section assessment; the Council working group will issue a broad survey in the next month. SAA leaders are encouraged to contact their Council liaisons if they have any questions. (V.C.)
