November 7, 2023—The Society of American Archivists (SAA) is excited to announce a landmark moment in its history with the approval of proposed amendments to the SAA constitution and bylaws, as outlined in the briefing paper.
A large majority of SAA members rallied behind the amendments to the SAA constitution and bylaws. The referendum provided a platform for SAA's diverse membership to have their say, reinforcing the organization's core principles of inclusivity, representation, and member-driven decision-making. The amendments are designed to modernize and streamline the governance structure, ensuring SAA remains agile and responsive to the dynamic needs of the archival community.
The results of the Constitution and Bylaws vote can be found below.
The SAA Council expresses its heartfelt gratitude to all members who participated in the member referendum vote, showcasing their dedication to the organization's mission and shared vision for the future. These constitutional amendments pave the way for a more efficient, inclusive, and adaptable Society of American Archivists.
The SAA leadership team is currently developing a timeline for updating the bylaws and constitution, both online and in governance documents, to ensure a structured process for publication, promoting transparency and adherence to organizational changes.
