AOTUS Nominee to Appear Before HSGAC on February 28

February 27, 2023—Dr. Colleen J. Shogan, the White House’s nominee to fill the Archivist of the United States position vacated by David Ferriero last year, will appear before the US Senate’s Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs (HSGAC) on February 28 at 10:00 a.m. ETWatch the hearing live here.

In September 2022, the Society of American Archivists provided a list of questions to the HSGAC to be considered for the hearing. The full list of questions can be found here.

In August 2022, the Society of American Archivists welcomed the nomination of Dr. Shogan as the next Archivist of the United States at the National Archives and Records Administration. SAA’s membership looks to a leader who will defend the mission of the agency, which “drives openness, cultivates public participation, and strengthens our nation’s democracy through public access to high-value government records.”

One year ago, SAA endorsed a set of characteristics, prepared by the Council of State Archivists (CoSA), for the next Archivist of the United States.

SAA looks forward to partnering with Dr. Shogan and NARA to continue supporting archives and archival work across the country.
