Call for Mentors for SAA’s Mentoring Cohort Program! Apply by April 22

Dear colleagues,

The SAA Mentoring Program seeks volunteers to co-lead mentoring cohorts supporting disabled, BIPOC, and LGTBQIA+ archivists. Or feel free to propose your own focus! Cohorts run from June-December and mentors must be members of SAA. Apply by April 22.

Testimonies from past participants:

“The ability to collaborate with my co-mentor on discussion topics and facilitation, and the rich balance our different experiences brought to the advice and insight we could provide to our mentees. In addition, creating a space just for BIPOC students and professionals to share their experiences and voices was critical.”

“It was a comfort just having the meetings on my calendar and to look forward to. [...] it's really valuable knowing I have the support of other BIPOC archivists. In the day-to-day grind, it can be hard to make time and space to reach out to friends or other mentors for support when negative things do happen.”

“It was great to be in community with everyone and watch everyone's journeys -- some folks experienced big moments during the six-month period (like getting jobs) and it was lovely to sort of go through that with them and celebrate them.”
