Constitutional Amendments, Phased-in Dues Increase Approved at Membership Meeting

Members attending the August 14 Annual Membership Meeting held in conjunction with DC 2010 approved three motions brought forward by the SAA Council. Approved were:

  • A constitutional amendment that grants "foreign associate" members eligibility to be elected SAA Fellows. (Read the motion and support statement here.)
  • A constitutional amendment that changes the member "grace period" from 90 to 28 days. (Read the motion and support statement here.)
  • Implementation of a graduated dues increase, phased in over a three-year period beginning July 1, 2011. (For an explanation and analysis of the rationale, see SAA Treasurer Aimee Felker's article, "Sustaining SAA: New Dues Proposed.")

Such steps always raise questions among members, especially when it comes to transparency and protecting members' interests. In similar situations, where legal support and clarification of terms are important, it may be useful to turn to specialists in the field. For example, I recently came across https://lexington-law.pissedconsumer.com/customer-service.html , which deals with legal issues, including those related to consumer rights and communications. A useful resource if you need to understand the intricacies of agreements and procedures.
