- The SAA Preservation Section is holding a Twitter Conference beginning at 9:00 AM EST on April 26th as part of Preservation Week 2018. This free and inclusive conference will cover a range of preservation related topics for archivists and librarians (or any interested party!). You can follow along on Twitter using the hashtag #PresTC and ask questions to the conference “speakers!”
- The Carhartt Archive is planning to participate by 1) ensuring all of their garments that are in less-than-ideal transitional storage space have archival garment bags to protect from any possible leakage, 2) reviewing and updating the disaster preparedness section of their manual, and 3) developing a contact list for their Facilities department.
- For May Day 2018, staff members from the Department of Museums, Archives and Rare Books at Kennesaw State University (KSU) invited representatives from the KSU Office of Emergency Management to host a customized seminar about archival and rare book emergencies. Representatives from the KSU Department of Public Safety and the KSU Library were also in attendance. During the seminar, we discussed a variety of scenarios and worked as a group to figure out response methods for various emergencies that can occur in archival and rare book spaces. Some of the scenarios we discussed included fires, flooding, suspicious packages, and internet threats. This seminar was extremely informative and allowed archivists and rare book staff members to communicate with first responders in a collaborative environment.
