Candidate Statement for Web Liaison
I am currently a student at Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science in the Archives and History dual-degree program. In addition to being a full-time student, I am the Social Media Intern with the Archives and Archivists of Color Roundtable, as well as a founding member of the Core Working Group for Archivists without Borders, U.S. Chapter. My interest in human rights developed prior to my entry into the information science field, but peaked when I began research for a paper on social justice and community archives for a session at SAA's 2012 Annual Meeting.
There are many opportunities for the Human Rights Archives Roundtable to establish an online presence, the least of which is participation on social media outlets, such as Facebook and Twitter. Aligned with the goals of the Human Rights Archives Roundtable, I believe that the most significant way that the Roundtable can contribute to the conversation is by creating an online resource hub that facilitates information sharing and dialog between professionals on archival-related issues. At present, there are many outlets that speak to the topic of human rights, as well as those that reflect issues of archives and human rights. The hub would link to these sites, as well as provide archival resource tools, such as white papers and an online forum, and news related to human rights collections, legislation, events, and the like.
Thank you,
