Conference Call Minutes: May 2016

DAS Subcommittee Conference Call Minutes

5/10/16

Present:  Bishoff, Legg, Martzahl, McAninch, Rosko, De Sutter, and Capodilupo.  Absent: Ghaznavi, Ghering, Lindberg, and Schaefer.

Intern Discussion – everyone was fine with the proposed policy of excluding Monique from any conversation pertaining to the Comprehensive Examination.  Legg suggested scheduling Comprehensive Examination discussion at the beginning or the end of the agenda.  Bishoff was wondering if the survey that CALAM or Nexus was conducting meant duplication and/or overlap.  De Sutter to look into that and we go from there.

Core Competencies update – the competencies are on the web with the one change that McGovern suggested.  During the recent migration/update, information on the competencies were created so staff only picks numbers to assign them to new courses across the site – a time savings.  However, when the competencies are fundamentally changed, IT staff has to re-create the base.

March 2016 Key Validation Report – Martzahl summarized that we’ve been using the same test from August ’15 to February ’16 with new pilot questions.  She is in the process of compiling a new version for this August, and when it’s done she’ll forward it to everyone with notations.  We’ve gotten rid of a lot of questions for various reasons.  She’ll need a list of new courses introduced over the last year so we can introduce pilot questions for those courses and decide when to introduce them.

Call for Proposals/developers/reviewers was reviewed.  Schaefer’s and Bishoff’s suggestions were accepted and the document will be sent to the Electronic Records Management Section as previously discussed.

The need for a short Proposal form that would allow DAS SC to decide if a topic should be pursued was discussed, and the group decided to stop making the following mandatory for that first go around:

  • Competencies
  • ACE Categories
  • Keywords
  • Learning Outcomes
  • Relationship to other courses
  • Supporting Materials
  • Bibliography
  • Copyright
  • Equipment and classroom requirements

Group will take one more look at this list to confirm.

Preservation of Audio and Video – McAninch shared that the webinar is scheduled on June 30 and that there were some changes with more to come?  (Glen did I get this right?)

Send Bishoff latest version.

A&D Rights and Confidentiality webinar description isn’t enough to make a decision on its DAS credit worthiness.  De Sutter to forward the PowerPoint presentation to Rosko for a determination that takes into account what percentage is allocated to digital archives.  “Is it only tangentially related?
