Conference Call Minutes: July 2016

DAS Subcommittee Conference Call Notes

7/19/16

Present:  Bishoff, Ghering, Ghaznavi, Lindberg, Legg, McAninch, Rosko, De Sutter, and Capodilupo.  Absent: Schaefer.

  • Intern Project (Ghaznavi) – Lassere has come up with a plan, proposed start date is Aug. 1. Committee agreed to review the plan and submit feedback by Friday, July 22.
  • Tibbo Course Audit (Mcaninch) – Favorable impression, engaged audience, thorough exploration of topic, could update a little bit since it’s a rapidly changing field. Glen didn’t pass the test, would like to review questions. Pre-readings are excellent, discussions were great. Would be good to incorporate the new TDR (Trusted Digital Repositories) book into this or other courses – many DAS instructors wrote pieces in it. Also should be reviewed in American Archivist. Not published by SAA - Cynthia & Glen will talk to author about including it. Mahnaz, Cynthia & Glen will work on editing exam.
  • Audio and Video webinar (Mcaninch) – Not well-attended but it got good reviews. One attendee said it was too fast-paced, and that she was trying to condense a lot of information. Good to have 2 presenters – Steven was excellent. Mcaninch will talk to Steven about doing a one-day course on large volume storage & management; they would need software for metadata extraction.
  • Conversations with Eckard and Kussmann (Ghaznavi and McAninch) – Discussed tool integration course with Kussmann, basic tool management, how-to. Ghaznavi will have a conversation with Eckard about providing tools for Kussmann’ course. Next step – Ghaznavi, McAninch, and De Sutter will continue to talk with Kussmann and Eckard and look for someone to teach tool integration. Kussmann is interested in developing a hands=on tools class and is willing to do a non-exclusive contract w/ non-compete and copyrighted exam.

So far, the new proposal process is coming along.  It would be helpful to have someone who knows the proposal and the person (their skills) to participate in the process. Maybe ask for former student feedback to vet new faculty.

Rights and Confidentiality Webinar (ok for DAS credit?) – Rosko – No, too general for DAS program.

De Sutter – 34 people are taking the DAS exam, DAS courses/A&D courses all a go. Cancelled Archives:  Principles and Practices for the first time in 11 years along with several other non-certificate workshops.

August conference call is scheduled for 8/9.

Adjournment.
