Conference Call Minutes: July 2012

DAS Subcommittee Conference Call

Minutes

July 15, 2012

1) Faculty Session at AGM

Solveig outlined our intent for the meeting at the AGM, in which we have 2 hours. We will begin with a brief reminder about the competencies and learning outcomes (perhaps a good time to talk about the consistency in Course Descriptions?), then get into the meat of what we are pre-assigning them so we have something to work with. Solveig will copy us on the message she sends to the instructors who have RSVPd to attend.

2) Course Description template *

Crosswalk with Course Proposal form content was noted. It was decided to ensure that the Course Proposal form was the place for this information because of the commonalities, to add anything we felt should be added to the Proposal form, and to use this Template for existing courses in order to have (eventually) course descriptions that are consistent from course to course. Suggested additions included a break out of Prerequisites into a free text field and a DAS course field, two Dates – created and revised, and Instructor(s).

3) Update on T&S3 - Digital Forensics *

We will wait for feedback from Mahnaz/Lori post-audit of the workshop at the AGM, meet immediately thereafter and make a decision as to how to proceed on a possible split and the type of split, if adopted.

4) Update on TST10 - Inreach/Outreach for Digital Archives *

Fynette Eaton will be taking over the teaching of this course, which was also very successful and well received. Noted the comment about numerous people expecting digitization, which grew into a discussion on how we alleviate this misconception. This took us back to the Prerequisites discussion on the Course Description Template, and also gave birth to a great idea of a required introductory video (approx. 30 minutes, no charge) about the DAS curriculum designed to prepare potential students and get them into the correct mindset.  Mahnaz is going to think more on that one.

5) T&S4 - PDF/A course review (on Google Docs)

Consensus between the 3 DAS subcomm reviewers was that the course was excellent. Liz had a couple of good suggestions and Lori did, too. Along with Glen’s feedback, I think we will have an excellent course for the DAS curriculum.

6) Course Shepherds *

            info you will receive

what to do with unclaimed courses from Doodle Poll

Noted that Mark only has two and will be ending his term soon, so we removed his two since they overlapped with Glen. We will assign some to our newest member Veronica. Mahnaz adopted another to add to her flock.

7) New Course Proposal

webinar on ViewShare (on Google Docs)

Generally agreed would be a good addition to the Tools and Services offerings.

8) An appreciation

We appreciate you, Mark!! Thanks for your work on the Subcommittee. We value your input and thank you for your willingness to express your frank opinions and lend your expertise! It has been fun!

9) September call date – Solveig will send out a Doodle poll.

10) October meeting date - Solveig will send out a Doodle poll.
