Conference Call Minutes: January 2014

DAS Subcommittee Conference Call – 1/31/2014

Lori Lindberg, Veronica Martzahl, Glen McAninch

  • Discussed final report from Sandy Dolan (report is posted on the microsite in the exam portal)
    • There was consensus that results were pretty good and that the upcoming February Comprehensive Examination should remain the same.
  • Actions for March meeting should include:
    • Looking at the 15 questions everybody answered correctly and making them more difficult.
    • Decide what to use/keep for the August Exam.
  • Veronica offered to review the current questions and provide a clean breakdown of the categories that they fall into.
  • Break out Tools and Services from Transformational questions for the August exam to get a better feel for each category.  There are also more Tools and Services questions than Transformational ones.
  • Discussed the various reviews of the draft proposal for Processing Digital Records and Manuscripts and consensus was:
    • Too much content for 90 minutes.
    •  Needs examples of tools …what are they, etc.
    • Add links to demos of these tools.
    • Beef up bibliography.
    • Footnotes substantiate the presenters’ points, they don’t add anything.
    • The terminology used differs from the terminology used in the courses.
      • Committee and instructors need to find a way to feed terminology used in the courses to the Directory Working Group (formerly known as Glossary Working Group).
    • Add links to the courses.
    • Schedule a conference call with Daines, Prom, Lindberg and/or McAninch, and De Sutter to discuss.  (Amalgamated reviews and the proposal will be posted to the microsite by next week).
  • Revision of the Standards webinar will take a bit longer than anticipated.
  • We need additional instructors for the Digital Repositories course and Peter Chan from Stanford University was recommended.  Lindberg offered to team teach with him at first.

Our next call is scheduled for February 18, at 9 am PT, 10 am MT, 11 am CT, and Noon ET.

On the agenda for the upcoming call is discussion about incorporating questions from the two new courses into the Comp Exam and the latest Dolan report that combines the August ’13 and November ’13 Exam data.
