STEERING COMMITTEE NOMINEES

Lori Schwartz

Name, title, and institutional affiliation: Lori Schwartz, Hagel and Technical Services Archivist, University of Nebraska Omaha

Bio/statement: I manage the U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel Archives and direct arrangement and description for the University of Nebraska Omaha's Archives and Special Collections. Prior to 2015, I was Special Projects Archivist at South Carolina Political Collections where I processed a number of congressional collections. I earned my MA in Public History and MLIS from the University of South Carolina in 2004. I served in leadership for the Association of Centers for the Study of Congress for eight years and recently was a member of SAA's Committee on Public Policy. I first served on CPS Steering Committee about 15 years ago! Over the years, I have learned so much from my political papers colleagues and look forward to our interactions more than any other in my professional circles. By serving on Steering Committee, I hope to be a support to my fellow colleagues, support CPS's growth and activities, and help welcome everyone to our wonderful community.

Shir Bach

Name, title, and institutional affiliation: Shir Bach, Congressional Papers Archivist, University of Vermont

Bio/candidate statement: As a newcomer to the world of congressional archives, I'm excited by this opportunity to serve our thriving community of practice. I'm just under a year into my position as a congressional papers archivist at the University of Vermont, where I'm one of three archivists working to process the papers of former Senator Patrick Leahy. One of my favorite parts about this job has been the sense of camaraderie and collaboration I've experienced with other congressional papers archivists. As a steering committee member, I would work to foster that spirit of collegiality through CPS programming. I'm particularly interested in the role our section can play in welcoming in and advocating for early career professionals within our subfield. Before coming to the University of Vermont, I earned my MLIS at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I worked as a graduate assistant at the Southern Oral History Program.

Dawn Sueoka

Name, title, and institutional affiliation: Dawn Sueoka, Congressional Papers Archivist, University of Hawai'i at Manoa

Bio/statement: Aloha mai kākou! I am the archivist for the Hawaiʻi Congressional Papers Collection at the UH Mānoa Library, a position I have held for four years. I have served as a member of the CPS Steering Committee, as a member of the Electronic Records Committee, and as your newsletter co-editor (with Kathryn Hujda) from 2021-2022. I also serve on the Communications Committee of the Association of Centers for the Study of Congress.

I have learned so much from this section–from the listserv to the coffee breaks to the electronic records and advocacy resources to our annual CPS day. If elected to be your vice chair, I hope to continue the great work of our section leadership. I'd love to help increase our membership, and am excited to continue discussions around outreach, advocacy, and civic engagement. I am very appreciative of our congressional papers community, and I would be grateful for the opportunity to serve as your vice chair. Mahalo for your consideration!
