This class will explore various aspects of response and recovery in the aftermath of a cultural heritage disaster, specifically fire. Members of the class will select materials, oversee burning the collection, evaluate and recover the damaged materials using a variety of strategies and ultimately create a series of web based tutorials to disseminate what they have learned to a wider community. The burning will be done at a UT facility, and at least one class session will require traveling to the J.J. Pickle Research Center. Several class sessions will require working with wet and charred materials.
