Metadata Object Description (MODS)

The workshop will introduce theoretical considerations and focus on translating that theory into practice. New MODS elements will be introduced in each of the first four weeks, covering the complete element set over the course of the workshop. The last two weeks will focus on the use of MODS in a digital library. Assignments will give direct, hands-on experience with the MODS structure as applied to the following formats: images, monographs, articles, maps, and sheet music. Readings and lectures will provide context for using MODS. A local implementation team project will challenge students to create a MODS metadata specification as appropriate for a particular hypothetical institution
