Election 2013

Vice-Chair:

 Christina Zamon

Christina Zamon Christina Zamon is the Head of Archives and Special Collections at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts.  Prior to that she was the archivist for the National Press Club, and an acquisitions assistant that the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C., where she procured rare books and manuscripts.  She began her career as a cataloging assistant for retrospective conversion at the Frick Art Reference Library in New York City in 1999.  She holds duel master’s degrees in library science and history from the University of Maryland where she also worked as a graduate assistant in the Preservation Department.  In 2005 she became a Certified Archivist.  Zamon’s professional activities include serving as chair of the Lone Arrangers Roundtable from 2010-2012 and active membership in the New England Archivists.  Zamon is the author of The Lone Arranger: Succeeding in a Small Repository published by SAA in 2012.

Statement of Interest:

Having been on the sidelines as part of the College and University Section for several years now I would like to step out of the shadows by taking on the role of Vice Chair/Chair Elect.

Since joining the roundtable in 2008 I have seen some great collaborations within the section on various projects to improve the work of C&U archivists.  Going forward I would like to see the section not only collaborate within itself but to reach out to the many sections and roundtables whose work often overlaps with the work of C&U archivists.  I think we should look to these roundtables to integrate their work into our agenda.  As Vice Chair/Chair Elect I would like to invite our colleagues in other sections and roundtables to collaborate with us to advance the archival profession.

Steering Committee:

 Rebecca Goldman

Rebecca Goldman My name is Rebecca Goldman, and I'm the Media and Digital Services Librarian at La Salle University in Philadelphia, where among other responsibilities, I oversee the University Archives. I'm the founder and outgoing chair of the Students and New Archives Professionals (SNAP) Roundtable, and I've been an SAA member since 2010. On the slightly-less-professional side, I write Derangement and Description, a webcomic about archives.

Statement of Interest:

I'm interested in serving as a steering committee member. As an archivist heavily involved in new professional issues, I see many opportunities for C&U to better integrate students and recent grads into the activities of the section. I'd also like to see more use of online tools and social media, to increase communication with and among the section membership, and to keep the section active between Annual Meetings.

 Jordon Steele

Jordon Steele I am currently the University Archivist at Johns Hopkins University, where I oversee the management of archives and manuscript collections, lead strategic planning, and supervise four archivists, among other duties.

I have held leadership roles in the archives community at the local, regional, and national levels.  As Chair of the Philadelphia-based Delaware Valley Archivists Group, I introduced content-based programming into DVAG’s scope of services, an innovation at the time that has since become a regular part of the organization’s functions.  I was recently reelected to my second two-year term as Member-at-Large for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference, which represents archivists in the mid-Atlantic region.  Among my duties with this group I have chaired the Ad-Hoc Committee on Disaster Relief, which reviews applications and awards monetary grants to repositories in need of disaster assistance.  I am also currently leading the effort to prepare a letter to the Governor of Maryland outlining MARAC’s position on ideal qualifications for Maryland’s next State Archivist, an effort that has received the attention of SAA leadership.

In August I will step down from a three-year appointment as Steering Committee member of SAA’s Metadata and Digital Object Roundtable, Among my numerous activities on this group, I helped develop and oversee MDOR’s internship program (something I would be interested in exploring with C&U Section), and I participated in designing and analyzing a survey to determine perspectives on mission affinities between MDOR and the Electronic Records Section from our two memberships—a project that has, in its small part, galvanized SAA to undertake a broader analysis with a similar intention.

Statement of Interest:

Among the projects I would consider suggesting that we undertake as a Steering Committee member include the drafting of an annual tactical plan, which would serve to keep the committee productive by creating concrete, achievable goals; and exploring the development of an internship program, which I helped implement to great success while on MDOR Steering.  I have also just been appointed to the President’s task force on section and roundtable affinities and could keep C&U Steering informed on these developments.  I know personally and by reputation many members of the C&U Section’s Steering Committee and would relish the opportunity to work alongside them to maintain and improve service to the C&U Section’s diverse community of members.  Thank you for your consideration.
