Public Awareness

Among SAA's highest priorities is to ensure that "Society values the vital role of archives and archivists" (2014-2018 Strategic Plan). SAA engages in a range of public relations activities throughout the year, and also encourages members to use the ideas and tips below in their own public awareness efforts.

American Archives Month: The Power of Collaboration
October is American Archives Month--an opportunity to join forces to raise awareness about the value of archives and archivists. Since 2006 SAA has provided practical information and great ideas to help you make your archives program more visible. View sample timelines, press releases and proclamations, an event planning guide, talking points, tips for media interviews, and more!

#AskAnArchivist Day
On October 5, archivists around the country take to Twitter to respond to questions from the public tweeted with the hashtag #AskAnArchivist. Take this opportunity to engage via your personal and/or institutional Twitter accounts and to respond to questions posed directly to you or more generally to all participants.
