Pam Hackbart-Dean

Pam Hackbart-Dean is Director of the Special Collections Research Center at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Previously she was head of Special Collections & Archives at Georgia State University. From 1990 to 2000, she was the processing archivist for the Richard B. Russell Library for Political Research and Study at the University of Georgia.

Pam is an active member of the Society of American Archivist and has served as Chair of the SAA Manuscript Section, SAA Oral History Section and SAA Committee on Education; and was a member of the 2002 Annual Planning Committee. She served as President of both the Academy of Certified Archivists (2010-2011) and the Society of Georgia Archivists (1997).

Pam received her MA in history from the University of Connecticut with a certificate in archival management, her BA in history from Hendrix College and is a graduate of the NEH/SAA Preservation Management Training Program. She has conducted a number of workshops on arrangement and description, as well as published articles on the subject.
