Outreach Ideas:

Recruitment for blog posts

• Updates: 

  • Amanda emailed Ed Summers about Web Archiving Appraisal

    • Still waiting for a reply

  • Lizzy will write a post about Reparative Description work

  • Amanda will email Raven Germain about blog/coffee chat

    • Switched positions, not interested

  • Amanda talked with Ben Goldman at MARAC, will email about web archiving stability. Possibly interested in coffee chat or blog. 

    • Sent email 11/08/2023. Waiting for response.

  • Weekly/Monthly Web Archiving roundup Blog posts

  • Hope: will talk with colleagues about a “Best Of” suite of tools post

  • Kirsti: Is working to use AI with web archives (provenance, using AI to query, etc.)

  • Idea: how web archives are used by law libraries and/or law enforcement

  • Corinne: Could write about web archiving internship

  • Action Item: Amanda, email authors from the Past Web for blog posts

Recruitment for Coffee Chats

• Greg Wiedeman (University Archivist at UAlbany) has agreed to speak for a January Coffee Chat. (Thanks Amanda!) Last year he created Mailbag. We talked about him discussing the program, doing a demo, and explaining how and why it uses WARCs for email preservation. 

• Tentative Date: Friday, January 26th, 2024 12-1pm EST

• Hope: tools to enhance discoverability or oral histories

Idea: Host multiple spring coffee chats since we have interest, ie. a series of speakers

Action Item: Corinne will set up a Google Form Survey to poll engagement/content members would like to see.

Action Item Update: Corinne will contact Hannah Stryker to update the WAS Steering Committee roster. Officially updated!

Social Media Strategy

Any updates on alternative Twitter/X spaces?

• Action Item Update: Send out question about social media account/use to all sections via SAA Connect

• Idea: Move links to outside posts/articles to the blog.

  • Dear SAA leaders,

  • All SAA component group leaders are invited to attend the SAA Technology-Lunch and Learn, following the recent 2023-2024 SAA Leadership Orientation and Forum (click to watch the recorded forum). Assistant Director of Foundation Astoria Edwards and Editorial and Program Specialist Hannah Stryker will host the session, focusing on the technology SAA leaders use (SAA Connect, Microsites, Zoom, WebEx, etc.). 

  • Mark your calendar for Thursday, November 9 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM CT. All SAA leaders are encouraged to attend this free event!

Kristi: polled sections, very little use of Mastadon/Blue Sky

Suggestions: 

• Use Zotero (free instance) to create list of resources for web archiving 

  • Example Zotero from records management section

  • Action item: Allison will look into this

• Use a close LinkedIn group

  • Example business archives section
